Leo Messi wins the 2010 Golden Ball

Let me use a phrase popular in recent times to express what we feel surely many Spanish at the moment: "ZAP! Across the mouth. " We came to Zurich with the assurance that the Golden Ball for 2010 would Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta, and we have forgotten that the umpire was neither more nor less than the best in the world, a certain Leo Messi.

The fact is that when Pep Guardiola opened the envelope with the name of the winner, and we all waited to hear a Spanish name, Leo Messi made another of his chilling dribbles to win his second consecutive Gold Ball, to everyone's surprise. Surprise even to himself Argentinian star, as his facial expression made it clear in his chair, and the body on the stand, when he had to support your body on this as if it were the bar of a bar. Surely his legs were shaking so much as his excited voice. Indeed, the whole scene has served to verify that the new model, not even know who the three candidates will be chosen until it opens the envelope.

But go with the lightning and thunder. "Messi was the most deserving of the Ballon d'Or? Personally would say no. And needless to say that here we all admire the Argentine, but you have to know what is rewarded. Is Messi the best in the World today? Yes Messi was the best throughout the 2010? No. It is impossible to be Spanish and not feel slighted with this award. We had to suffer a few years ago when Owen left Raul to the gates of glory. This time has been the same, but twice. If you have not won the Golden Ball this year as World Champions, when it get?

France won the 1998 World Cup and the Ballon d'Or was for Zidane. Brazil won the 2002 World Cup and the Ballon d'Or went to Ronaldo. Italy won the 2006 World Cup and Golden Ball to Cannavaro was (yes, to Cannavaro). Spain has won the 2010 World Cup soccer with a exquisite, and the Ballon d'Or has been for ... Messi? Or we have very bad luck or tease us.

Just this year that combined first Ballon d'Or and FIFA World Player, and therefore mixed votes of journalists with professionals, coaches and players, was expected to finally recognize the importance Xavi running the game better and better club selection today. Or Iniesta, who starred in the most important goal in the history of Spain and is another good example because not only football, but of humanity.

Anyway, congratulations to Leo Messi. Playing as play can not say that does not deserve it, but it hurts to stay so close. Anyway, not wanting to discredit the Ballon d'Or, let's not forget that it remains a subjective and individual prize in team sports. Today we have been a disappointment, but nobody is sure of one thing: Spain is still the World Champion.

PD: Messi has taken 22.65% of the vote. Iniesta was second with 17.36% and Xavi third with 16.48%
