Bosman, and football changed

Iguana ball

Jean-Marc Bosman, Royal Belgian footballer modest FC Liege and one of the most influential personalities in the evolution of football. Had it not been he would have been different, but fate would be his name that give name to one of the sentences that changed the way of conceiving the football to open the borders between European Union members, bringing the concept of foreign players has changed dramatically. Have already spent a mere fifteen years since that December 15, 1995 when the Court of Justice ruled the European Union, fifteen years in which the lights and shadows have cherished the decision taken in Luxembourg.

The Bosman ruling is a logical extension of time in which the European Union would seek to shrink the borders between its members, which declared in rebellion against her would be to swim against for football and sport in general no longer a reflection of society and also a contributor to its progress. Another issue to discern is responsible or irresponsible use of the statement is made and derivatives which may lead to make this statement in a double-edged sword.

With the Bosman Case, football opened its borders, meant more opportunities for players and led to the possibility that many foreign stars arrived in the big European leagues, and it was no coincidence that the money, mainly from broadcasters aware of the opportunity that was presented to them for their Audiometers, began to enter baskets in football. Spanish football was not bad because soon gave rise to that of La Liga de las Estrellas, it would hardly have been so considered without the Bosman ruling. Moreover, seeing the success of selection these days, one could hardly cross the Bosman case and negative for our football.

However, before December 15 of that community only five were part of the Spanish league: Laudrup in Real Madrid, Figo at Barca, Purk the Royal Society and Christensen and Passi in Compostela. Now the figure is grossly greater. Great players came to the Spanish league, but it was less the amount of mediocre players in any case better than what we had here. The case is: money and the possibility of recruiting a player who can offer, in theory, immediate return, why trust something medium to long term? Emergencies and rush to get players turned to the combination Bosman Judgement and television money brought not only to Spanish football, but most European leagues.

The differences between the large and the rest have grown, with clubs able to purchase more willing to deal with the recruitment of the best players in the market. There is little room for surprise, for a job well done. Espanyol there are cases like our football, but are less motivated and in many cases because there is no alternative but to rely on younger, not surprisingly, the Barcelona club has been forced to sell Victor Ruiz and Didac Vila both of the quarry, to Naples and Milan respectively. Ten million are to blame.

The Champions League is a clear reflection of the power of the aristocracy in soccer: Mourinho only Porto and Monaco were capable of surprising in that final, or the Valencia of Hector Cuper being runner-up two years. The rest, the usual. Steaua no longer exists, a PSV, a Red Star Olympique Marseille or Ajax, with players from the quarry or domestic, are able to give the bell, and the selections that are impeding the top teams any hint of rebellion. The fondness of forming a European Super League is just the logical consequence of all this.

Open borders is the positive side, but continued marketing is its downside. Agents well know, the real bargain that brought the Bosman Judgement and whose power in football today is clear: Jorge Mendes, Mino Raiola ... true gurus in the world of football. Border-free football, but turned into a business because of an irresponsible use of a statement that sought to free movement of European citizens. We shook hands but grabbed his arm.
