A study by the Research Center of History and Statistics of the Spanish Soccer CIHEFE, FC Barcelona is the best Spanish team in the first decade of the new millennium ranking over arch-rivals Real Madrid. Conclusion was reached after analyzing all competitions contested by the Spanish teams where Barcelona has emerged with flying colors.

While the study gives Real Madrid the best team in the League and Sevilla as the best in the Cup, Barcelona has taken advantage of their Champions League title which ultimately located at the top of the picture.

The overall standings with the top 10 teams is as follows:

2. Real Madrid with 1482 points.
3. Valencia with 1236 points.
4. Deportivo with 1024 points.
5. Sevilla with 1014 points.

As you can see the advantage of almost 150 points between Barcelona and Real Madrid is basically due to the achievements of the Catalans in the Champions League. European performance of the meringue is not that expected for a club of such high budget as a template.
