Schalke 04-Valencia (3-1): Farewell to the Champions at the lack of a collective plan

Valencia says goodbye to the Champions League. After a bad game at the Veltins-Arena, was defeated by the Schalke 04 (3-1) and says goodbye to the continental showpiece. And that put the game soon face, with a goal from Ricardo Costa past the quarter hour, but stay ahead on the scoreboard did not do well with those of Emery. Front did not have a big rival, but a pretty limited team that knows how to take advantage of what you have. So at least it has in this tie. That was his way of ending the set che.

Sometimes it is better not get the prize if he has not been a real effort. Not that Valencia were not doing well until the first goal, the strategy in the corner was serving to harm the German team and it seemed that Valencia was going to be patient, but the 0-1 result was almost all precipitation. Note the good work from Mehmet Topal in the action of the goal, if it is true that the waists of miners tempted to break defenses. Schalke was gradually taking the initiative and, although without much fanfare, controlled the situation with the passage of minutes.

The best move combined Valencia ended with a shot from Aduriz, after a great pass from Mata, who crashed into a defense. And near the break came the tie of the premises. The Peruvian Farfán launched a foul on the edge of the area and, overcoming the barrier, sent the ball into the back of the net. It may be too prize draw for the Germans, whose play, apart from the touch football that was born of the jury-right boot, nothing more, was based on continuous cross. But that logic seemed to vanish when Valencia took the lead.

Schalke jumped better than the Spanish team after the break and quickly turn the game and get ahead in the tie. Guaita, who had hesitated minutes before a similar action, missed a high output and put the goal on a plate to set of Felix Magath. Gavranovic who ended up building was a loose ball after a shot that hit Farfán leg promising young goalkeeper Torrent. Only then, when it was below the Valencia responded. But his momentum was short and had no reward.

The clear choice was Aduriz in a head to head with the German goalkeeper Neuer, who had been welcomed by his fans with a clear message: Manu Bleib! (Manu, stay!) Before the alleged interest from Manchester United and Bayern Munich, escaped with a miraculous hand. In fact, there is over the danger of Valencia. Emery ushered Soldier and Tino Costa, who set aside too much time on the bench, but in the absence of a collective plan the only alternative was used Valencian players individualism: Joaquin, whose mobility seemed encouraging at times, too bent head and failed to connect to any partner.

There was no creation, not even clear arrivals. In the only opportunity that could bring danger, the referee got in a shot by Joaquin whose address is still unknown. And Valencia, as if he really was overturned on the Neuer goal, when in reality all he did was build up men in the three-quarter pass and fail back-line spaces left that he ended up drawing to place Farfán subtly the final 3-1. Gavranovic before, he had two: one over the crossbar after a punt Guaita and the other, while driving a three to one over the crossbar after an attempt as great as precipitate.

Valencia did not make a good game and paid dearly. He could not play to his advantage or to recover the goals conceded. A clear sign of evil was that Banega, an offensive midfielder cut, lost many balls each time he wanted to risk the pass. Racing bucket cost to own and, with accumulated fatigue or not, the fact is that Emery's team did not push enough or showed a face towe can now blame their removal to a lack of luck. There was no success because there was no plan to get it right.
