Euro 2012: The potential surprises

sorpresas0 After the analyzes of the three main favorite and four unknowns , today we dedicate a post to those choices that we believe could cause an upset in European Championship in Poland and Ukraine . Five combined, one from each group except A, where we put two and we consider the group most open and accessible, with the potential to give more of a shock to one of the favorites and get to quarters or semis, where a priori is expected to more powerful choices.

The reasons why we choose as potential revelations are quite varied: for players who can make the difference themselves, by a well-defined style or worked directly for the quality of local, as is the case of Poland, the first of our suggestions:

Poland

sorpresas1

Strong point: playing at home

Playing at home is always an advantage in these tournaments. To begin with because he always enjoys an audience overwhelmingly in favor but especially by the arbitral treatment often receive the tournament organizers. Here we have the examples of England in the 66 (which discussed a few days) and South Korea in 2002.

But to exploit these advantages are minimally prepared to have a team. And Poland has it. Under the direction of Franciszek Smuda, Polish National Team is a team that has some players that are part of some of the best teams in Europe, as Szczesny, Arsenal goalkeeper, Piszczek, Dortmund defense and, above all, Lewandowski, Borussia star striker, 22 goals in the Bundesliga, a large battering ram known to move much better than it may seem for their height, good header, big game back to goal and very opportunistic. A real danger to any defense.

Weak point: little experience in elite

Polish National Team does not have much experience in major national tournaments combined. His major accomplishments were two third places in the Global 74 and 82. The only time to qualify for a European Championship was in 2008, in which only scored one goal (in the 1-1 draw with Austria). That is why the Polish players lack experience in these conflicts, a handicap that can tip the balance toward the negative side in moments of great tension and nervousness.

Russia

sorpresas2

Strong point: no major deficiencies offset equipment

Russian National Team was the surprise team of last Eurocop to, eliminating the Netherlands to reach the semifinals, where he succumbed to Spain. The Russians kept the same block in 2008, with good players on all lines: a more than decent goalkeeper Akinfeev good level defenses as Berezutski, bo the revelation of the Euro'08, Zhirkov, midfielders with proven experience as Shirokov, Denisov and Zyryanov, not to mention their rising star, Dzagoev, and forwards the potential of Arshavin and Pavlyuchenko. In short: a well-balanced team with no major cracks.

Weak point: the best are older

Dick Advocaat will have the advantage of having a workforce that is well known because it has maintained a very strong during the last four years, but at the same time, what is undeniable is that everyone is four years older than when they surprised in Austria and Switzerland. And many of the owners and pass that border the best performance that we put around 28 years old. Arriving at a gasoline Justito tournament Euro requirement can become a handicap very difficult to compensate. Be seen whether patriotic pride Arshavin and company helps to offset other shortcomings.

Denmark

sorpresas3

Strong point: a style that defined

Morten Olsen was once the first player to reach the Danish one hundred caps. After retiring he became coach, leading the Brøndby, at Cologne and Ajax Amsterdam, with whom did the double in 98. In 2000 he took over the Danish selection, which turned over all levels, such as the U21 play as the Absolute, a combination of 4-2-3-1 with 4-3-3.

Since then it has been three times: first in which the Danes competed in the 2002 World Cup and Euro 2004, a second in which the bill failed or for the 2006 World Cup or Euro 2008, and a third in which other have succeeded in qualifying for the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012. They have a decent goalkeeper, Lindergaard, two backs, Agger and Kjaer, a good midfielder, Poulsen, an extreme destabilizing, Rommedhal, a gust front too extreme, Bendtner, and, above all, a talented playmaker that could be the revelation of the tournament: Eriksen.

Weak point: little margin for error in the strongest group

The worst thing about Denmark is that he has had a terrible group, where they will have to fight for one of two places that give the pass to the quarterfinals with, nothing more and nothing less than Germany, the Netherlands and Portugal. To achieve their aspirations would win one, tie it with another and see what the goal-average for matched possible. Competing in such a group you forget to tread carefully, ensuring that you have all the good work and reduce your weaknesses to a minimum. Debut against the Netherlands, if you put tulips hand, will have their chance, if you start wrong, may suffer a great time and go home with a depressed horse.

Croatia

sorpresas4

Strong point: a midfield with quality and experience

If one is not very clear what the Croatian midfield and suddenly you find in the typical graph alignments will probably end up exclaiming: Wow, I did not know they had such a good midfield! No wonder: Srna, Kranjcar, Modric and Rakitic. You would like a lot, muchísmos, clubs across Europe and most of the selections that will contest the European Championship.

The heirs of that wonderful team that took third place in the World Cup in France did not make the trip to South Africa. But the Federation kept faith with coach Slaven Bilic and the Croatian selection has not only managed to qualify for Euro 2012, but more importantly they have done through a very attractive football, which control ball is paramount. A complete success, seeing that its strength is precisely the quality of their midfield.

Weak point: big defensive weakness

The Croatian is a very unbalanced selection. While enjoying a spectacular core, on the other lines pretty lame. Their goalkeeper Pletikosa, no big deal and its defense, except for Corluka, not up to scratch. Up front they have better names, but to be seen whether will rise: Olic, doomed to the role of shock to the Bayern, Jelavic, 9 goals for Everton in the last Premier, and the naturalized Brazilian Eduardo da Silva, who was the second top scorer in qualifying with 12 goals, one fewer than Northern Ireland's Healy. The front can yield abundantly, but behind are so weak that they must be held above 100% if they want to give strength to your proposal.

Sweden

sorpresas5

Strong point: A giant called Ibrahimovic and veteran soldiers

Swedish National Team had a golden age in the first half of the 90's, when he managed to be semi-finalists and World Euro'92 USA '94, With Larrson, Andersson, Ravelli ... The current combo is far from that great team, although it has figures and veterans to lean on: goalkeeper Isaksson (91 caps), the central Mellberg (112) and midfielder Svensson ( 126). And above all, its main star Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Ibracadabra is a true mad genius, capable of the best and worst. If you are motivated, you can win games by himself, but if you lose the interest becomes a real drag on your computer. Do not forget that a couple of years left saying just that selection, lack of motivation to eventually return a year later. Calcium Capocannoniere twice (last time this season with Milan, 28 goals), if the planets align your crazy head could be up to the best player in the Euro.

Weak point: Zlatandependencia

Its strength is its weakness. Sweden too dependent Ibrahimovic. The other attackers are not even remotely, to its height. Toivonen saved and Elmander, who will fight every day to be the companion of the duo Zlatan striker Erik Hamren. If not working Ibrahimovic, Sweden suffers a lot, becomes a most mediocre team that anyone could tamper with it. In a group with France, England and one of the organizers, Ukraine, Ibrahimovic is the beginning and end of the Swedish aspirations.
