Chelsea 2-1 Liverpool: FA Cup Fourth in the last six years for Chelsea

Lampard, Terry and Drogba

Chelsea is just imposed Liverpool 2-1 in the final of the FA Cup, goals from Ramires, Drogba and Carroll, in a match that all the excitement reserved for final 10 minutes of madness. First title of the season for Chelsea last month pointed to disaster, and now hopes to sign the best season of his story, depending on what you do in the final of the Champions League.

He advanced to the twelve minutes Chelsea via Ramires, and it seemed that Drogba sentenced shock, culminating with excellent definition a great pass from Lampard, and in the second half. Until then, party control by the blues was all. Liverpool was incapable of weaving moves. Great difficulties at the start of the ball, with Henderson and Spearing very thick when it comes to creating, leaving Gerrard and Luis Suarez virtually isolated. The few-if not nil-arrivals from Liverpool in the first 60 minutes, limited to the game pieces.

But then, ten minutes into the second half, came the turning point. Kenny Dalglish removed Spearing and ushered Andy Carroll. So Gerrard stepped back into the scheme to aid in the creation, while Carroll gave his teammates a reference passed up through the entire game network. It is true that the 2-1 came on one play dumb, in which Downing stole the ball on the left wing, attended Carroll, and this tremendous defined with whiplash despite being bundled in the control.

But since then, the absolute dominance of Liverpool was led by the figure of Carroll. The central pair of Ivanovic, Terry, who had lived quiet throughout the match, suddenly looked completely overcome in every action, unable to stop the tall striker. And therefore, Chelsea was falling behind their lines, accumulating players in the area, increasingly resembling that of the tie against FC Barcelona. Totally denying the attack and betting everything on defense.

And she almost fired badly the play, when an excellent move to first touch of Liverpool, Luis Suarez center was topped by Carroll at the far post. It seemed that the ball and the player and sneak his way into the corner celebrating the goal. But a providential hand of Cech cleared the ball, which bounced off the crossbar to be cleared immediately afterwards by Ivanovic. The referee did not give the tie despite protests from Liverpool, and the television cameras proved him right: the ball does not go completely.

The merit of Roberto Di Matteo

Villas-Boas arrived in London with the clear intention to renew at Chelsea. I thought the project had led him to the top was already outdated, so I raised a revolution. Beginning to establish a 4-3-3 scheme and continuing to renew the occupants of this. So it was first given to roles as Lampard and Drogba swords, to make way for future bets as Sturridge or Oriol Romeu. The plan never worked.

After the cessation of the Portuguese, came Di Matteo to the bench with clear ideas: to recover the old guard, and be strong about it ahead of the remainder of the season. Recovered 4-2-3-1, opted for Drogba and Lampard again as immovable figures, and they regained the weight on the team with Terry to give their last legs.

It is clear that Chelsea sooner rather than later will need the revolution that sought to establish Villas-Boas, more advanced age than lack of performance of these players. But not yet. Cech, Terry, Lampard, Drogba. The backbone of a historic Chelsea. Only lack the Champions League under his belt. A Champions League that only bad luck prevented them from winning in the past. This may be your last chance, and would badly underestimate Bayern in a set that is now replete with regard to morale and performance.
