Learning from our children

Nice gesture that has left us this weekend to the grassroots. The Castelldefels - FC Barcelona's youth has crept into the sports media, including news of Guardiola, Rosell and Preciado. Barca lads showed exemplary sportsmanship so unusual. Were allowed to score. Something that rarely, if ever, happens at the professional level. That was the slogan that he transmitted his coach, Sergi Barjuan, one of the old idols of the Camp Nou.

Junior B coach solved with more controversy. With the keeper to beat on the floor, a Barca player shot on goal. The shot came and went as the score, 0-1. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Castelldefels, oblivious to the ball, was hauled by a crash that left him injured. I shall not assess whether it is ethical or not the attitude of the FC Barcelona soccer player, if you saw it in its companion wounded. I have read many criticisms against him by kicking to the goalkeeper on the floor. Nor do I make a debate about whether the goalkeeper had really been missing or just pretending. I believe that there is an aspect that deserves to be highlighted above all these issues: fair play.

Well beyond the insults of the parents, burning with the goal. Or the rage in the chute, without opposition, and the holding striker Castelldefels. Beyond all this, we stick with the decision to Sergi Barjuan. He could not keep his player picked. Some will be bad, some not, because the referee is the one to stop the game if he considers that a violation has occurred. Sergi still took the situation to succeed. "There was nothing left to tie", recognized and argued his election to the chambers of the club's official television.

The coach made the best decisions for those who believe in the true values of sport. Sergi sacrificed a victory when there were only 2 minutes into the game. Aware of the importance of the Barça brand, now more than ever with the successful model of The Farm. "Because we are a club level model Catalan, Spanish, European and global, was justified. Your order will cost 2 points, but earned him the gratitude of the local PA system speaker Els reed beds, which hosted the meeting. And the insults of some local spectators turned into cheers of recognition.

After the match, which ended in 1-1, Castelldefels issued a public note of thanks. The detail of Sergi Barjuan and his boys have not gone unnoticed among his peers. The head of soccer training, Albert Puig, has held the position of his colleague. "Sergi ten did." Puig and did something similar when he went to the Alevín B in 2007 during a tournament in Peralada against Espanyol. His players scored after failing to return a ball that Espanyol had thrown out by the injury of a player of Barça. Then Albert, as Sergi, ordered his players to stop conceding a goal.

Before the beautiful game is fair play. That must be the watchword of all the teams, both elite and junior level. In an idyllic football and just this story probably will not strike us news. This weekend some guys have left a teaching that goes for all ages. Seniors and have taken note. "It's a beautiful gesture that should be copied in many areas of the game," opined David Villa. When asked if something like this could happen in a Barca-Madrid, the Guaje replied: "Why not?".
