Sunday, January 9, 2011. Sporting Gijon to Santander gets to play Week 18, with a sad background of 12 points. It was several weeks in which Manolo Preciado seemed more outside than inside the club, so a defeat would be final. And Gijon coach was packing up when Diego Castro did the 1-1 in minute 90. Preciado have one more week to try to turn around a dramatic situation, but the names of Marcelino García and José Luis Mendilibar still stalking the sidelines of the Molinón.
But against all odds, this header from Diego Castro was the turning point of a team that since then it seems capable of anything. The chained Sporting Manolo three consecutive victories and climbed back up to the sky red and white. A sky that never wanted to get off the fans, but the results were unnerved members of the Council.
Since that day in El Sardinero, Sporting has added the spectacular figure of 25 points in 13 days. Signature in the second round Champions League numbers, and is the team's fewest goals in the league after the intractable FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. On that defensive security lies one of the reasons for the trajectory of the team. The Sporting is a block that takes a lot to make their own goals, Madrid and Barcelona can attest to this-and yet, is knowing how to take yours.
But what Manolo Preciado has changed in the field to have achieved such a streak? The answer is two names: Cases and André Nacho Castro. Two young players, incorporated into the first team in January and have given consistency, rigor, sacrifice and approach the center of the field in Asturian invaluable.
Nacho Cases is a subsidiary team up to play the game named Santander, where prices had water around his neck and looking for different solutions. That was when you were given the option to Nacho, a midfielder with a glove on his left, with much discretion when playing the ball and sacrifice that makes a kid who wants to succeed. While André Castro came on loan from Porto. A player who had long Sporting following and trying to sign. Young, elected last season as the player revelation of the Portuguese League. Porto are aware of the great projection of André and therefore not releasing it anyway, but Sporting is negotiating a new assignment for the next year. André has been quick to win the Sporting fans because of its delivery from the outset. It took him a few games to earn a spot in the starting lineup, alongside Cases, with which it forms a key partner in the team.
Needless to say, and André Castro Nacho Cases are not only responsible for laying the Sporting eight points above relegation. It would be unfair to leave without mentioning people like Botía, who started the season on an irregular basis but in the last few games back to be level with last season. A Canella, José Angel and Lora, the three sides that are sure to Vicente Del Bosque is close. A Diego Castro, who remains the star of this team and that the stands will be greatly missed next season when the leaves for Getafe. Or David Barral and Miguel de las Cuevas, who with his goals in the last few days have gotten closer Sporting have the Europa League to the relegation zone. However, this is nothing more than an anecdote. Manolo takes care of anyone to climb on the grapevine.
