A sonnet commemorating the victory of Spain at Euro 2008 in Austria and Switzerland

Euro-espana.jpg

Today three years ago that the Spanish were champions of Europe in the Ernst Happel in Vienna at the European Championships in Austria and Switzerland. On June 29, 2008, around 32 minutes in the final against Germany (about a quarter past nine in the afternoon-night), Fernando Torres outpace Lahm and put the toe of his right foot just enough to raise the Lehman ball over and push it to the network. With that goal, celebrated 44 years after both Marcelino to the USSR, Spain reign again in the Old Continent.

The group led by Luis Aragonés, after going through a hard road, drove old ghosts (won no less than Italy in penalty shootout quarter-final) and won also a precious football who arrested many which today remains the basis of the Spain that has become World Champion and continues to break records in the hands of Vicente del Bosque.

To commemorate this great success, we have composed Football Notes a sonnet. It was the beginning of the current crisis and the victory of Spain served as a stimulus and also as an escape, a country beset by economic problems and that traditionally has not been characterized by political and social cohesion. Not even football, as always, until now, has dominated the football club over the selections. The victory over Germany was a heroic national party for everyone.

Standing in front of the TV, a town next door,
I have it so present in my memory
thought we were making history
and it was true, we had achieved.

Torres's foot that beat the goalkeeper,
Casillas' hands, our holy;
came the hugs, the tears came.
My grandfather, Aragones, how I love you!

He played, then, fight side by side
amid the bloody crisis,
make what was, somehow,

red trampoline, a flag
for once an anthem for everyone
a breath that football brought us.

Stay in any case, so nice to remember that experiences like that of June 29, 2008, when Spain rose to the top of Europe through football. They are, no doubt, moments of hope that last minutes, hours, days or weeks, but coming to invade us for life.
